E3 2008: Guinness World Records DS gets watermelon crushing game

A couple of weeks back we learnt Lego Star Wars' maker Traveller's Tales was working on a new game based on Guinness World Records franchise.

Now though, new information has been released on Guinness World Records: The Videogame. Including which world records you'll be able to compete in. And yes, the record for the fastest time to crush watermelons with your bare hands is there. Thank goodness.

In total, 40 different challenges will be included in the DS game. Others detailed are the fastest time to eat a plane (what?) and fastest time to sheer a sheep.

Players travel a virtual world in order to complete the different record-breaking stunts, with successful attempts earning them a title as a virtual Guinness World Record holder. As you make your way around the globe, standing on hot-spots reveal interesting facts about records broken in that location.

You're also able to collect fact cards and record-breaking certificates, and earn Guinness World Record coins to then use in a shop to gain access to more events.

An online mode has been mentioned, too, although it's not clear if that will only be a feature on Wii, on which the game is also coming out. It's likely the online scoreboard will be compatible with DS, though. Each of the game's 40 challenges will be playable as a single-player or with and against others in teams.

No release date has been mentioned yet. We just hope there's not too long to wait, because Guinness World Records: The Videogame actually sounds like it could be quite good fun and we have faith that Traveller's Tales will make it so anyway. Patience, not dedication, is what you need if you wanna be a virtual record breaker.
