Rising Star announces game is coming this October

Cradle of Rome combines puzzling and resource management for DS

The PC gamers among you might have heard of Cradle of Rome - it was a puzzle resource management hybrid released on the format in 2007 and developed by Berlin-based studio cerasus.media.

Which isn't news in itself, but today's announcement from Rising Star Games that it's bringing the game to DS is.

The game centres on the birth of the Roman Empire and is essentially a pretty simple puzzle game that has players swapping adjacent tiles about in order to match up three of a kind.

A twist, however, lies in the fact that you're not trying to complete the board as quickly as possible like most puzzle games, but instead gathering as many resources as possible before the timer runs out. The more resources you can collect, the faster you can start rebuilding Rome.

Your resources begin with the likes of a humble saw mill, but soon get more impressive, with monuments such as the Arch of Titus, Temple of Venus and Saturn and even the mighty Coliseum up for grabs.

There will be 100 levels in total, plus 20 historical sites from five eras to build. Unlockable bonus tools also make clearing the board easier and give you opportunities to gather even more resources, gold and treasure.

Rising Star doesn't say whether the game is going to differ much on DS from the PC game. But going on the screenshots it looks quite similar.

Cradle of Rome is scheduled for release across all PAL regions on October 10th. If it sounds like your thing, keep a look out for it then.
