Dobbs Challenge spawns Windows Mobile game

Dobbs Challenge spawns Windows Mobile game

Sometimes the most interesting awards can be the ones for new developers' ideas, rather than simply garlanding established firms.

Such is the case with the recent Dobbs Challenge contest, which got developers to download the raw assets and source code for a game either for Windows (i.e. desktop PCs) or Windows Mobile, and then modify them using Visual Studio 2008 software.

The winner of the WinMo category is one Daniel Morillio, who's trousered $2,000 for his game Dr Dobbs Challenge Mobile. (Okay, so the game was more innovative than its title.)

It's an isometric puzzler where you have to manipulate blocks around the screen. The contest's judges say they were "surprised and delighted" at its quality.

Better still, it's available from the competition website as a free download. Got a WinMo phone and fancy a go? Click here.
