Swoopin promises 800+ ad-funded titles

There's been a lot of talk about using Facebook to promote mobile games in recent months, and there's also a lot of buzz around the idea of using advertising to offer mobile games for free.

Ubersoft is a company trying to combine those ideas in one service, Swoopin. The service offers access to more than 800 free games, funded by ads, and while it started life as a WAP site, it's just been turned into a Facebook application.

It seems simple enough: you install the application to your Facebook profile, then enter your phone model and choose a game category (examples include puzzle, action, adventure, casino and mobile pets).

That app is then embedded in your profile, from which you can download the games yourself and sideload them onto your phone, or send them to friends. Ubersoft is clearly hoping the latter will spur viral growth for the service.

It's a nifty idea, and some decent games are in Swoopin's catalogue (such as Galaxy on Fire and Piglympics). It's certainly one to watch, although with 16 daily active users at the time of writing, it's very much early days.
