In a year of big-screen comebacks, The Dark Knight is perhaps the most eagerly anticipated.

Why? Because the blockbuster movie sees Batman battling one of his oldest foes, in the form of The Joker.

Glu Mobile is making the official game of the film, with both due out in July. You'll step into the shoes of Batman himself, as he uses stealth, gadgets and good old-fashioned fighting to rid Gotham's streets from The Joker's menace.

The game itself is a side-scrolling action-adventure, offering suitably moody visuals that evoke the gothic Gotham of the film.

The controls are simple, too. Everything's explained as you go along, from making the most of the dynamic combat system, through to launching your grappling hook and hiding in doorways.

As the latter feature shows, The Dark Knight is as much about stealth as it is about yomping through levels punching bad guys. That said, the punching does work well, with a variety of moves at your disposal. You'll have to parry blows as well as throw your own, adding a strategic element.

Batman nuts will be pleased at the inclusion of some of his classic weapons, including batarangs, and the ability to glide through the air like a bat. Well, a man wearing a bat costume with a flappy cloak, anyway.

And the plot? Well, the film's plot has been kept so top-secret, that we were only allowed to play a few levels, for fear of revealing too much of it.

Glu would kill us if we told you about the way Superman turns up halfway through and gives King Kong a good shoeing while Batman foils a deadly alliance between The Joker and Captain Jack Sparrow before… Oops!
