Friday Freebie

The PSP takes a week off while the DS gets its beat on

Friday Freebie

This must be a first. Believe it or not, we have no freebies for the PSP this week. None, nada, nichts, nowt. Could this be some sort of warning, a sign that all is not well in the cosmos? Are we just a plague or two away from a pocket gaming catastrophe of biblical proportions?

Okay, perhaps we're over-reacting a little bit, but we'll be keeping our eye on the horizon, just in case the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse do decide to show up.

Until that fateful day, however, we do have some freebies for you to enjoy with your other pocket gaming gizmos, starting with the Nintendo DS. If beats are your thing and you like them to be 'hella large on the track' or even just generally 'phat', then you could do worse than point your browser at GlitchDS, a new digital beat manipulator for the Nintendo DS. The site, also called GlitchDS, contains all sorts of regular updates about fixes and tweaks to the program as well as some YouTube videos displaying it in action.

Bear in mind this is not for the faint of heart, though. It's more for the Warp Records crowd than the 'I want to program basic beats to play David Gray covers along to' gang, and of course you will need to be packing the necessary homebrew hardware and know-how to get it up and running (which you can read all about here and here).

Turning to mobile, we have something to console the shattered dreams of those still reeling from England's failure to qualify for Euro 2008 in the form of a free trial of the management sim Eur'08 from MCM. The game makes it possible to have a pop at doing a better job than Steve McLaren at coaxing some victories out of the squad and includes a full compliment of training modes and teams. So well worth a look for footy fanatics.

And lastly, our regular recommendation from our freebie cohorts, MobileRated. Though the name of the title, Tibia, doesn't exactly set the imagination ablaze with intrigue and wonder (I had visions of a hospital specialising in broken legs), the fact that this is a free massively multiplayer online RPG for mobiles is more than a little exciting. Head to our forum to find a full description and a download link for the title.

And that, dear friends, is the end of this week's Friday Freebie. If we're all still here in seven days' time we'll hopefully have a fix primed and ready for PSP users.

In the meantime do check out our Freebie Archive, our regularly updated Demos section and, of course, the Freebies section of our forum. Don't forget to click 'Track It!' to catch the next Friday Freebie edition and keep an eye out for any horses until then. Just in case. Enjoy!
