DS baseball knocks PSP Monster Hunter off Japanese games chart top spot
Nintendo handheld dominates rest of chart, too
If you were expecting Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G to remain at the top of Japan's software charts forever, try not to choke on your miso soup when we tell you that it's been knocked off its place by none other than Sega's Let's Make a Pro Baseball Team!
The newly released game managed sales of 59,000 in the week ending May 25th, while Monster Hunter sold 51,000.
Still a decent performance, of course, but a better reflection of the situation is evident in the fact that Monster Hunter was also the only PSP game to make it into the top ten, while five DS games appeared. Following Pro Baseball (in order) were Glory of Hercules: Proof of Spirit, DS Beautiful Letter Training, Scarlet Fragment DS and Taiko Drum Master DS.
We particularly like the sound of the Beautiful Letter Training game.
Clearly PSP needs some more games in the charts if the console is going to sustain its position at the top of Japan's hardware race – as it has done for much of this year. Monster Hunter has played its part, now something needs to come along to keep Sony's handheld in the limelight once the Japanese public gets tired of monster hunting. Any contenders? Hmm, thought not.
