It looks like Sony's serious about getting the PSP selling as well as it is in Japan the world over. And if third-party publishers aren't going to get behind the console with new games, Sony's going to do its best with an EA partnership and sexy new PSP colour instead.

Touchdown heaven, then, because today the console manufacturer announced a new PSP bundle would be launching in the US on August 12th, complete with a smart special edition metallic blue PSP (seen it above?).

The bundle includes the PSP, a copy of Madden NFL 09, an 'NFL In Just One Play' UMD from Warner Bros, a voucher to download Beats from the PlayStation Store and a 1GB Memory Stick Pro Duo. That's all for the price of $199.99 (around £100), representing a saving of some $60 compared with buying that lot separately.

"Sports games are one of the most popular types of games among PSP owners, and it was only natural to make our next PSP Entertainment Pack a sports-themed bundle," said Scott A Steinberg, SCEA's vice president of product marketing, through his favourite mouthguard. "PSP continues to have great momentum in the marketplace. We expect that the Madden NFL 09 PSP Entertainment Pack will capitalise on this momentum and strengthen PlayStation's presence in the sports genre."

To be honest, we can take or leave Steinberg's Madden Entertainment Pack, but we do like the look of that metallic blue PSP. Sadly, Sony says the new colour console will only be offered in North America as part of the bundle. Oh the injustice. It almost makes me feel like repeatedly sacking a quarterback. That's sacking, to be clear.
