The thing about The Crystal Maze was that, though it was tremendously entertaining, it didn't really seem like it was ever possible for the contestants to win when they finally made it to the 'Crystal Dome'.

So now that the gameshow, which was practically tailor made to appear as a mobile game, is making the leap to handsets, perhaps we'll finally get to go on that pony trekking holiday in Ullswater. Baffled? Let's back up for a minute.

The Crystal Maze was a unique gameshow enjoying its heyday in the early '90s. It featured the eccentric host Richard O'Brien (who, incidentally, also wrote The Rocky Horror Show) leading a team of six contestants around four different zones (Medieval, Futuristic, Aztec and Industrial) in which the contestants would have to complete various physical, skill, mental and mystery challenges.

Each successfully completed challenge earned the team a crystal, each of which was worth five seconds in the final challenge – the aforementioned Crystal Dome – where the contestants had to stand inside an oversized crystal-shaped greenhouse and try to collect as many gold tickets being blown about by a giant fan as possible, while avoiding silver tickets. If the contestants managed to collect enough golden tickets (which invariably, they seldom ever did) they would be awarded an exciting adventure holiday.

Once you've digested all that, you'll note it's pretty much the perfect formula for a mobile game, as we said. Hopefully O'Brien's idiosyncratic personality will make it into the mix amongst the mini-games on offer. We've been waiting on this one for a while, after all, having first heard about it this time last year.

Thankfully the wait is nearly over and we'll be reviewing The Crystal Maze very soon. Click 'Track It!' to be sure not to miss it.
