Following the release of a handful of DS games, such as Hotel Dusk: Room 215 and Phoenix Wright, based on the humble point 'n' click adventure - and their subsequent massive sales - it seems like quite a few publishers are getting ideas about re-releasing their own titles onto the handheld.

Late last year the DS was host to old-skool PC adventure Myst, and now comes news that the 2002 PC and console game Syberia is headed for the console.

The game is an adventure similar in style to the Broken Sword series and has you controlling a lawyer called Kate Walker. When she's sent by her company to finalise the take-over of a toy factory, she learns that the factory owner has just died and has a brother who needs to be contacted in order for the take-over to proceed.

Finding him, however, clearly isn't a straightforward task (is it ever?), and it's one that will take you to several locations around the world.

According to a press statement issued by publisher Mindscape (and reported by Nintendic), the DS game will be a straightforward port of the original and there's no new content planned. That does mean, however, it'll feature the game's 3D scenery, musical score and cut-scenes. It will also use the DS's touch screen for control and we can expect an improved interface and menu system too.

Syberia will be released in Europe in October this year. There are no screenshots of it in action on DS yet - the one above is taken from the PC version, and should give you a good idea of what you can expect.
