One of our favourite games at the moment is PixelJunk Monsters. It's a PS3 download game, yes, but we're playing it remotely on our PSP (which works incredibly well) so, fear not, we haven't turned our backs on our trusty handhelds...

It means that today's announcement from THQ that it's working on something apparently similar to PixelJunk Monsters has come at the right time. Once we've saved all our cute little monsters from lumbering baddies by building armaments and dancing, after all, we're going to want something to take their place. And Construction Combat: Lock's Quest is sounding like the game to do it.

The title is being developed for DS by 5th Cell, the makers of the quirky Drawn to Life. Described as combining the action/adventure and life simulation genres, it has you creating a virtual world block-by-block in an attempt to defend your homeland from invading enemies.

Your character, young Lock, is part architect and part engineer, and you can use these skills to build new structures around sacred Source Artefacts to protect them. Materials such as stone, metal and wood can all be used with varying success to create and design defence towers in the battlefield. The weapon selection promises to be quirky and diverse, with quicksand traps and glue cannons on offer.

There will also be the option to battle against friends either using multi-card play or over wi-fi.Lock's Quest is expected to be released this autumn. Hopefully it'll be the next PixelJunk. If it is, trust us, we'll be telling you all about it. Click 'Track It!' to follow the story.
