EA to kickflip its killer skateboarding game to handheld?

Once you put something on the internet, it's very tough to get rid of it again. Lord knows I've tried with photos of me holding assorted fruits - I suspect they'll still be haunting me when I'm 65.

IGN appears to have hit a similar problem today - albeit one involving a DS game and not a pineapple - with an announcement for SKATE on DS. Presumably it wrote about the game's existence - which apparently could be coming to both DS and Wii - then was told for some reason it couldn't run the story, which was promptly taken back down again. But not before several sites had already seen it and run their own stories, and not in time to stop Google putting up a description of the original page if you search for SKATE + DS + IGN.

It seems unlikely that a big site like IGN would write a story based on entirely unsubstantiated facts, so we're guessing EA just doesn't want the announcement made yet. But it looks likely the game is on its way.

SKATE originally came out on PS3 and Xbox 360 at the end of last year and aimed to create a more streamlined, realistic replication of the sport than previously offered by Activision's Tony Hawk's games. Instead of thrashing ten button combos, tricks are performed by manipulating and experimenting with the analogue sticks.

This DS version will apparently be called Skate It. There's no news on when it might be with us, but expect more details once EA decide it's actually ready to announce the game.
