Upcoming DreamWorks film Kung Fu Panda is going to be getting the game treatment courtesy of Activision, the company announced today.

Players will embark on a journey to fulfil lead character Po the panda's destiny to become the Dragon Warrior. They'll get to play as him, but also as a team of other characters taken from the film, including Kung Fu master Shifu and the stealthy Viper.

Each animal has its own unique abilities, as you'd expect. So while Po can fight using moves like the Panda Quake and Iron Belly Blast, Crane can fly, Monkey can carry out complex acrobatic moves and Tigress can launch fast attacks on enemies. As the game progresses, each character's moves can also be upgraded.

The game will consist of 13 levels – all inspired by the film and taking place in a variety of land, air and water environments. As well as the single-player adventure, multi-player modes are planned which will enable you to go head-to-head against others in the battle arena. You'll also be able to play through the game co-operatively with a friend.

The game is being developed by Vicarious Visions, which has been responsible for a substantial list of handheld titles, including Spider-Man 3, Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam and Transformers.

Kung Fu Panda's due out in May so not long to go.
