Set about conquering the world in June this year

Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution gets UK release date

2K Games has confirmed that Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution will be available in UK shops on June 6th.

The game is the first in the long-running Civilization franchise to stray away from the PC platform and be made for consoles (although PSP did get the excellent Sid Meier's Pirates!), making it a hugely exciting proposition. It's due out on DS (as well as Xbox 360 and PS3).

2K's US-based Firaxis development studio is making the game, headed up by the series' creator himself, Sid Meier, who has previously stated Civilization Revolution is the game he's always wanted to make.

As such it's no port of one of the PC versions, instead built ground-up exclusively for console and handheld players. The gameplay is described as fast-paced, pick-up-and-play stuff which, naturally, centres on the traditional Civilization goal of global domination.

New graphical touches and a streamlined interface is promised, the latter of which should be a breeze to use with the DS touchscreen. Other DS-specific elements though haven't been confirmed yet, and neither has there been any news on the game's multiplayer options. We hope to hear more soon about both.

Most importantly, the new screenshots released by 2K Games today show the game is looking fantastic. And the confirmed release date of June 6th isn't that far away for those who lead typically frantic 21st century lives.
