The US launch of Go!Explore, Sony's GPS navigation system for PSP, has finally been confirmed for this spring. The satellite positioning system was announced for Japan last August at the Leipzig Games Convention and released there on December 7th, but Sony could only say that the device and its software would follow for other parts of the world in 2008.

It was at this week's Consumer Electronic's Show being held in Las Vegas that the company told of its plans to release Go!Explore in the US. The package will include a GPS receiver which attaches to the top of the PSP, a UMD loaded with maps of the country of release, and a car adapter and mount.

Identical to other standalone GPS devices, it features a real-time 2D/3D visual locator and city guides, road updates, and points of interest will also be available to download to the system. Unlike other systems available though, the Go!Explore has the edge for gamers as the technology could be integrated for use in future games, although presumably it would have to be bundled with a game to prove a viable install base.

Crucially, the price for the system in the US still remains to be confirmed. In Japan, the GPS receiver on its own sells for the equivalent of around £40.

Sony also has yet to provide any details about a UK price or release date but we'd except to hear about its plans soon, and we'll update you as soon as we hear more.
