Dirk Spanner and the Fallen Idol to bring detective genre to N-Gage

Game announcements for the new N-Gage platform are starting to appear with a little more regularity and the latest to make itself known is Dirk Spanner and the Fallen Idol. The title is set against a film noir backdrop but adds a splash of quirky humour to its point-and-click detective action.

As you can now doubt imagine, the storyline features romance and deception aplenty, with the tale peppered with movie stars, rip-offs, double-crosses and lots of wigs and moustaches. You play as the titular Dirk, a lead private eye who has to wade through a seedy queue of femme fatales and gangsters to solve the mystery of a stolen statue. Oh, and a brutal murder.

Gameplay-wise, the whole lot is to be served up as a one-button affair with unique camera-based controls. From what we've seen, the game is quite the looker, too, with lovely comic book styling and great animation (look out for a trailer of the game in our Video section tomorrow).

Dirk Spanner and the Fallen Idol is expected to release in the first half of 2008 and current form suggests it could be one of the most compellingly original N-Gage titles yet.
