505 Games has today announced it will be publishing music and rhythm game, Kira Kira Pop Princess, exclusively on DS.

The game has you playing as a girl called Gaby who's trying to get herself crowned Rainbow City 'Dance Queen'. In order to win this coveted prize, she must dance her way to various districts (each with its own distinct fashion and music style), talk to local girls and challenge them to dance-offs. Win these and you unlock their fashion styles for your wardrobe – everything from hip hop gear and scary gothic to school uniform.

Hitting the in-game dance floor works by holding the DS vertically and using the touchscreen to hit coloured buttons in time with the beat. There will be four moves to master, including Single Slide left or right and Continuous Slide. Hitting moves in time builds up 'Rainbow combos' and racks up a score that, hopefully, beats your opponent's.

"Kira Kira Pop Princess is another quality handheld release from 505 Games for 2008," commented Ian Howe, managing director of 505 Games, while busting some funky moves. "The game perfectly captures all the elements of music, dance and fashion that young girls love and presents them in an accessible, entertaining and family friendly format."

The game is in development by Japanese studio Dimple Entertainment. It's previously made a Kira Kira DS title that was only released in Japan, and also an intriguing sounding DS therapy game, which is something we feel we could sometimes do with after a long day playing mobile RPGs.

Kira Kira Pop Princess will be released in February 2008. In the meantime, check out these pretty pink screenshots featuring tank tops and not a turret or explosive shells in sight.
