Rockstar has finally lodged an official appeal against the BBFC's decision to ban Manhunt 2 in the UK on June 19th.

"Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc confirmed today that Rockstar Games has appealed the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) decision that prohibited the release of any version of Manhunt 2 in Britain," said a statement from the company.

Leaving things close to the last minute, the publisher apparently applied for a hearing with the Video Appeals Committee only yesterday, reports MCV.

This is the latest development in the Manhunt 2 saga. The game was banned in the UK and Ireland, before receiving an Adults Only rating in the US, effectively banning the game in that nation due to Sony and Nintendo's corporate policies preventing the publication of AO material on their consoles.

Rockstar subsequently announced its plans to suspend the title.

The next step with regards to the appeal against the BBFC ruling is for a date to be set for the hearing, where the views of both parties will be taken into account before a final decision is made.
