Didn't get an iPhone? How about a myPhone mobile pet?

Okay, so it's scant consolation

If we lived in the US, we'd be cuddling up to an iPhone right now, to see if it really is the best thing since sliced bread. As it is, there's still no news on when Apple's handset will be crossing the Atlantic. Bah.

Cellufun is hoping to capitalise on our disgruntlement with a craftily-timed new game called MobilePet myPhone. It's a WAP game that lets you 'adopt' a myPhone – a handset bearing a marked resemblance to a certain whizzy new mobile – and keep it happy and healthy.

You'll even be able to download music for the virtual device, to keep it entertained. Meanwhile, because the game is connected, you can get your friends to visit your myPhone, which earns you extra points on the game's online high-score table.

Apparently more than 500,000 people have signed up to Cellufun's other MobilePet games, which feature animals including dogs, pigs, monkeys, penguins and cows. No, really. Cows.

Later this month, Cellufun plans to release a downloadable version of the myPhone edition. Even if it's just a clever reskin to capitalise on iPhone fever, it's still an intriguing idea, so worth checking out.
