Even those who know nothing about haute couture (that's definitely us), know there's a constant battle between the big fashion houses and the backstreet Asian sweatshops who manage create copies of what's been on the catwalks of Paris and Milan before Anna Wintour has finished her Bolly and blinis.

Maybe that's what happening in the small niche of fashion design DS games, too?

Back in May, Ubisoft proudly announced Fashion Designer (seen on the left, below), a touchscreen game all about standing on a chair, facing a full length mirror and creating the perfect outfit and matching accessories, while spreading a huge amount of clothes-related mess throughout the rest of the house.

And what's 505 Game's up to?

It's only gone and announced Fashion Designer: Style Icon (above, right) for DS, where you take the role of a young designer who starts out standing on a chair, facing a full length mirror and creating the perfect outfit and matching accessories, while spreading a huge amount of clothes-related mess throughout the rest of the house – and ends up supplying frocks to the stars.

Perhaps what's really amusing is the closeness of the games' release dates. Fashion Designer is due to hit the shelves on October 26th, while Fashion Designer: Style Icon is being prepared for a November release.
