Although 1983 will always be remembered by the gaming public as the year that gave us Donkey Kong, it was Miner 2049er that won over the thumbs of the critics, scooping the Electronic Game of the Year award in 1984 and being the first game to appear of the cover of Electronic Games Magazine. And now without any bothersome apes to overshadow it, Miner 2049er is getting a new lease of life on mobile phone.

Miner 2049er is a platform puzzler. You play as Bounty Bob, an intrepid explorer of mines, who must travel across the hazardous terrain of a disused uranium mine filled with toxic waste and mutant creatures. You complete each stage by walking on every last inch of the play area to change its colour, thus claiming it as your own.

The mobile version is something of a deluxe edition, including both the original game and ten new levels and coming complete with updated visuals and new obstacles.

Apparently now rolling out via the usual mobile game flogging channels, Miner 2049er's simple gameplay could be a good fit for phones, although we're somewhat worried by the tiny original graphics. Click 'Track It!' to see how we get on if we manage to dig deeper with a review.
