Greystripe gets more dosh to push ad-funded mobile games
It's trousered some of Mickey Mouse's millions
We've written before about GameJump, the website that offers free mobile games funded by advertising. The company that runs it, Greystripe, has just received just under £4.5 million of funding from Steamboat Ventures, a venture capital firm affiliated with Walt Disney.
Greystripe says one use for the cash will be to expand its partnerships and reach here in Europe, which presumably means signing up more local developers and publishers to offer their games on GameJump and the firm's other distribution channels.
That said, it's done pretty well so far, with 70 publishers already signed up, and a total of 800 games available. Greystripe also says it's now seen more than seven million of its ad-wrapped mobile games downloaded in less than a year since launch.
Meanwhile, here in Europe, mobile firm Miyowa has launched a mobile games portal with French operator Bouygues Telecom, offering free games supported by, yes, adverts.
Four games are initially available – Fight Girl, Sudoku Classic, Ultimate Battle Star and BabyBomber – with one more due to be added every month. Miyowa says it's looking to launch the portal with other operators in the coming months.
