Sony unveils PaRappa The Rapper PSP content

Okay, it's hardly as historically defining a moment as the JFK shooting or the supposed Moon landing, but the release of PaRappa The Rapper ten years ago on PlayStation is significant, if only because it brought the concept of rhythm action to the masses.

It helped, of course, that the game featured a highly distinct visual style, courtesy of renowned New York artist Rodney Greenblat, combined with comically catchy tunes from the mind of multimedia musician Masaya Matsuura.

If you missed the phenomenon first time around, fret not, because you'll be able to relive the experience later this year on PSP. From July, in fact, if you happen to be a US reader. (The game's been out in Japan for a while.)

The remake features all the characters, levels and songs of the original game, and also adds a selection of exclusive new options, such as the ability to go head-to-head against up to three other players via ad hoc, to download an additional eight playable remixes, and to share a demo level wirelessly via gamesharing support (again, for four players).

No official word yet on the European release (at the time of writing the game has not made an appearance on Sony UK's press site) but we strongly expect it to turn up alongside its US cousin. After all, just like LocoRoco last year, we can't think of a more suitable game to play during the summer.
