The internet is absolutely packed to bursting point with free stuff. The trouble is about 20 per cent of it isn't actually free at all and 75 per cent of it is absolutely rubbish. The remaining five per cent is where the paydirt is, and of that probably only 0.5 per cent of it concerns portable consoles and mobile games.

Bored of maths yet? Then read on for this week's clutch of portable freebies.

We have covered the homegrown delights available at www.mobilerated.com before on the Friday Freebie, but whilst we were distracted with the mobile gaming treasure troves at the likes of Gamejump and OrangePixel, several gems have managed to slip under the radar over there.

The latest offerings include the isometric blaster Robowars, the cutesy spooky Ghost Hunter RPG and yep, you guessed it, more sudoko. Although they're all Java-based efforts, meaning there are no flashy 3D offerings, every title on the site is free just as long as you don't mind the odd in-game advert.

Secondly, we have good news for bookworms. We reported earlier this week about Darren Reid and the fine collection of stories and graphic novels he offers for free to PSP, DS and iPod users.

Well, it seems that Mr Reid is not the only one working tirelessly to bring the written word to a generation that have finished many more games than they have books. Matt McClintock has an exhaustive list of freely downloadable literary classics available for PSP users at his aptly-named manybooks website.
