It was one of our most wanted games for 2007 and ranked high in our list of most anticipated DS strategy games, but the makers of WWII turn-based title Panzer Tactics DS continue to taunt us.

You see, originally we had hoped the game would sneak out last December. Now it seems we'll have to wait until the autumn for our dose of 1940s touchscreen wargaming.

At least we've got a couple of new screenshots to look at. The first displays the sort of swinging assault arrow that characterised the intro to Dad's Army. Here however it appears to show the movement of a group of US M36 Jackson tank destroyers, trying to outflank some Russia T34s. Now that's not a battle we remember occuring in 1939-1945, so we're assuming the screen is taken from one of the special non-historical bonus missions that project manager Johanna Schober spoke about during our interview last year.

Another arrow-bound screen shows an air assault over the Norwegian city of Bergen. British Mosquitos and Halifax bombers appear to be involved with a mixture of Messerschmitt Bf 109s and 262s as well as avoiding the attentions of a battery of anti-aircraft 88mm guns.

Studying at the shots in detail, you can also see some the attributes associated with each weapon system. These include how far the unit can see, how far it can move per turn, and how much fuel and ammunition it has remaining. Other metrics are its firepower, and vulnerability against troops, armour, aircraft and shipping.

Panzer Tactics DS is currently scheduled for a Q3 release, but hit the 'Track It!' button to get alerted whenever we hear anything new.
