It's official: Final Fantasy III for the DS will arrive on European shores on May 4th. The game has already been released in both Japan and America, where Square Enix has shipped 1.4 million units so far – good, but not quite as good as it might have hoped after teasing Western gamers with the title for nearly two decades.

Still, hardcore fans on this side of the pond will be eager to get their hands on a copy (if they've not already gone with the import route), which by all accounts looks as though it will play exactly the same as the US version that our own DS guru Jon Jordan reviewed in January.

Not a game that will change your life, in summary, but a must for completists and perhaps a fair place to start if you're a DS owner looking for a fairly mild introduction to role-playing.

Now, if only Square would hurry up and announce when we're getting Revenant Wings.
