GDC 2007: Mobile set to figure large at developer show

This week sees hundreds of developers descend on San Francisco for the annual Game Developers Conference, which includes a dedicated mobile games element.

Although the conference itself is mainly a chance to talk developery stuff, we're also expecting a number of news announcements that'll be of interest even if you DON'T have a beard. To wit:

  • Nokia is due to announce more details of its plans for the next-generation N-Gage platform, which launches in September across a range of Nokia's Nseries phones. Hopefully, this'll include news of more publishers supporting the platform alongside EA, Gameloft and Glu, as well as details on game pricing and the first few handsets to run the platform.
  • As we reported last month, it's strongly rumoured that a mobile version of Guitar Hero will be announced at GDC, with developer Sonivox due to give a talk on how they're bringing the game to phones.
  • Expect some new mobile game announcements from the big publishers, too. They used to save their hot news for the E3 show in May, but with that show being less high-profile this year, GDC will see much more publishers showing off their new titles and announcing big licensing deals.

Naturally, we'll be covering all the news as it comes out of GDC 2007 here on Pocket Gamer, so keep checking back for the latest headlines.
