New details confirmed for TOCA Race Driver 3 Challenge on PSP

Codemasters has confirmed its next TOCA game for PSP will hit the retail track on February 16th, and in doing so the publisher has also given a little more detail with regards to the promising title's content.

We've previously given you an overview of what you can expect to experience on this PSP exclusive version, but it's about time we put our heads under the hood for a closer look.

World Challenge, the game's main mode, remains in place of course, and offers a chance for players to perfect their racing expertise and then prove it on the circuits. Divided into five international championship tiers, budding virtual racers compete in skill tests, specialised events and race championships spanning a variety of racing styles.

The skill tests themselves have previously been summarised as a chance for players to showcase their racing prowess. As such, Bring It Home constructs a scenario requiring a player to successfully race a heavily damaged car for a race's final few laps. Conversely, No Damage pits you against a selection of aggressive drivers and asks you to finish the race with as few bent body panels as possible.

Similar driving precision is required in Steering Control, which measures both accuracy and speed while you tackle a slalom course of cones against a strict time limit. After that, following the racing line for a lap in Drive the Line should be a breeze.

Duel, however, could prove the toughest challenge –head-to-head racing against a rival can be demanding stuff, and more so when your opponent is allowed a head start. Not only do you need to close the gap, overtake them and stay in front for longer than five seconds, you must do so cleanly, without causing damage to your competitor's car.

Expect a review of TOCA Race Driver 3 Challenge as soon as we've tried its 36 world-famous tracks in its wide-ranging (and handling) selection of 40-odd licensed vehicles (which, amongst others, include such automotive stars as the Audi A4 DTM, AMG-Mercedes C-Klasse DTM, Ford Falcon AU and BA, WilliamsF1 Team FW 27, Gemballa GTR 750 EVO, Holden Commodore VX and VY V8 Super, Koening GT-D and 360 GT, Nissan 350Z Nismo, Subaru Impreza 22 Track and N10 Track, and TVR T400 R).

We've got high hopes for this one so click 'Track It!' to be alerted the moment our verdict hits the net.
