Is the Sony Ericsson W810i the most popular gaming mobile?
|

There are hundreds of different types of mobile phone out there in people's pockets, taking in the latest models, but also handsets from three or four years ago that people haven't got round to upgrading.

Figuring out which ones are most popular for playing games on is an ongoing challenge for mobile game developers. They know which ones they'd like to be popular – generally the newest 3D-capable models – but Joe Public doesn't always co-operate.

Anyway, free gaming site MobileRated has just released a list of the most popular phones among its users, based on downloads from its portal. Sony Ericsson's W810i tops the list, followed by the BlackBerry 8100 pearl, the Sony Ericsson K750i, the Nokia 6600, and the Motorola RAZR V3.

Two things to note though. First, the figures are only a measure of what people who use this particular free downloads site use.

Second, it's noticeable that even the W810i only accounts for 3.35% of MobileRated's downloads. In fact, add up the percentages, and the site's Top 25 only accounts for 42.38% in total. Like we said, there are hundreds of phones out there. It's one of the things that makes reviewing mobile games so tricky.

Anyway, the full list is as follows:

1. SonyEricsson W810i (3.35%)
2. RIM BlackBerry 8100 Pearl (2.72%)
3. SonyEricsson K750i (2.60%)
