Sonic The Hedgehog comes to Game Boy Advance

Two oldies get together – but there's no need to avert your eyes

Sonic The Hedgehog comes to Game Boy Advance

Game Boy Advance owners don't get much to cheer about nowadays – not unless they're partial to both Saturday morning kids TV and mediocre gameplay. And so everyone outside of the tween masochist demographic that GBA games publishers presumably think exists might well let out an almighty roar on hearing Sonic The Hedgehog is coming to GBA, particularly if they missed him the first time round.

Of course, Sonic has never really been away. The blue-haired Sega mascot and the essential gameplay he offers – super speedy platform action on a quest for golden rings – has been updated in numerous guises over the years, most recently in splendid fashion for mobile phone.

Sensibly, this GBA version follows the phone's lead in going back 15 years to Sonic's roots on the Sega Genesis (the games console known as the MegaDrive in Europe) to deliver what's billed as a perfect conversion.

The game includes seven stages from the original, starting with the famous gravity-defying loop-the-loops of the Green Hill Zone.

Sonic The Hedgehog Genesis adds a new manoeuvre too, in the form of a spin-dash combination that could liven up the game for even old hands. You can also unlock the original soundtrack as you go, and you'll be able to save your progress throughout the stages. We've really moved on since 1991!

It is due out on 14th November, although we're not certain if that's a worldwide release date or just for North American at this point. Stay tuned.
