Move your DS wireless settings over to your new DS Lite with ease

For all its talk of inclusiveness, setting up Nintendo's Wi-Fi Connection can be pretty time consuming and annoying. Follow this guide to transfer your saved settings to your new DS Lite quickly and painlessly. (But please don't ask why our new console's Candy Pink.)


On your old DS (the machine you want to transfer data from) start up a compatible game and go to the Nintendo's Wi-Fi Connection Setup. On Animal Crossing, which we used, you do this by selecting Other Things then Wi-Fi Settings from the main menu. Tap or press 'A' to confirm. How to transfer DS Wi-Fi settings pic 1

Now you're in the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection Setup menu. Tap Options and then tap Transfer Nintendo WFC Configuration. You'll get a warning that, when successful, the settings on this DS will be deleted. If you're sure you want to continue, tap OK twice. How to transfer DS Wi-Fi settings pic 2

Turn on your new DS (the machine you want to transfer data to). On the home screen select DS Download Play. Wait for a moment and the two machines will find each other. How to transfer DS Wi-Fi settings pic 3

Select Nintendo WFC Configuration Transfer and confirm that you accept the software. How to transfer DS Wi-Fi settings pic 4

Switch over to your old DS and confirm that you want to send the data. Check the Destination DS Nickname is correct. The two machines will communicate with each other for a few moments.

Switch again – to your new DS – and confirm (yawn) one more time that you're sure you want the new Wi-Fi Connection data. The information will be transferred.
