A hero's work is never done. Having finished off Prince Vor's Black Citadel in Kaolink's 2004 mobile game of that name, the adventurer Kilagu has rather carelessly gotten abducted and stranded on some deserted coastal region, and is thus forced to do the epic quest thing all over again.

Of course, Kilagu's bad luck is better news for us mobile gamers than a happy ending for the hero in a retirement home in Bournemouth. His new adventure, Black Citadel II, promises all the bells-and-whistles of a modern mobile role-playing game, including day and night environments, five regions to explore, and both magical and sword-based combat.

The latter boasts a combo system, in which you build up a more powerful attack through successive strikes on your opponent. Being a role-playing game, you further develop your skills and spell casting by defeating monsters and gaining experience. Your vanquished foes also offer up items for you to collect, such as potions, armour, swords, scrolls and keys.

As well as this story-driven game there's also a separate Arena mode, which offers a more frenetic take-on-all-comers experience. Here you fight waves of enemies in an old-skool high-score style affair, simply fighting and surviving for as long as you can. More enemies are added to the Arena mode as you progress through the story-based game.

We hope to review Black Citadel II soon, and we apologise in advance to Kilagu for all the fresh pain we're about to put him through.
