Ys: The Ark of Napishtim sets sail for PSP in September

Although it may sound like a drunken man asking for directions, Konami's next PSP release is actually the handheld version of a best-selling Japanese role-playing action adventure game set in an elvish world.

Playing as renowned adventurer Adol Christian, your story begins when you're washed up on a beach inhabited by the aforementioned elves, who have supernatural powers.

And Ys: The Ark of Napishtim doesn't get much more straightforward from thereon in either, as you explore the vibrant colourful game world, recruiting colleagues and battling all manner of 2D and 3D foes (including huge 'boss adversaries') in order to track down the rogues who stole your ship and so save the village.

Just as well you've got three magical swords, imbued with the power of wind, fire and thunder respectively.

If you can get your tongue around the title and your head around the plot, there looks like being plenty of action on offer, including a variety of PSP exclusive sub games in the form of training missions to hone Adol's skills. You will also be able to unlock secret galleries of images and music by locating special items within the game.

Described by its publishers as both accessible for newcomers (thanks to an intuitive interface) but also capable of providing a test for veteran RPGers, Ys: The Ark of Napishtim is due for release in September.
