Lexicon Entertainment has just announced Chronos Twins, a time-spanning DS action/adventure game to be released early next year.

Nintendo-heads with long memories might be doing a bit of time travelling of their own here. Wasn't Chronos Twins originally being developed for the GBA a couple of years back?

Yes, if we remember correctly – it was a split-screen affair operating under the slightly shorter title of Chronos Twin, as evidenced in these IGN archives from 2004.

Split-screen would always have been a struggle on the GBA, but Chronos Twins looks tailor-made for the dual-screened Nintendo DS.

The game puts time travel on centre-stage, with the same game level visible in both present and past time periods across the DS' two screens. To make your way through the game, you'll need to push through the side-scrolling environments, taking advantage of the opportunities and limitations of each time period.

That's all we know for now; let's hope we don't travel through time to 2008 to discover Chronos Twins destined for the Nintendo DS2…
