Tasty! First screens of Monster Hunter Freedom 2 on PSP

We've got bad news for you if you've finally got the huge and oddly compelling Monster Hunter Freedom done-and-dusted: Capcom has announced a sequel, and let slip the first screens too.

Of course a follow-up was only to be expected, with the original game having sold to well over 600,000 would-be monster hunters in Japan alone.

Entitled Monster Hunter Portable 2nd in the Asian territories where the title has been officially unveiled, the second portable Monster Hunter game is set to take a turn for the snowy.

According to the latest issue of Japanese games bible Famitsu, as translated by IGN, other areas for you to seek your over-sized prey in include a forest, a swamp and a volcano.

Missions will take place at different times of the day, bringing new perspectives to the environments, although it seems the true day-to-night cycle of the PlayStation 2 Monster Hunter 2 game hasn't made the transition to Sony's portable. New weapons have, however, including a hunting horn, a long bow, and a samurai blade.

What we want to see though is proper online play via the PSP's infrastructure mode. The Famitsu article only mentions local wireless play and downloadable content, but we'll keep our fingers crossed.

And you might as well click 'Track It!', because we don't expect to see Monster Hunter Freedom 2 in Europe until Spring 2007 at the earliest.
