Virtua Tennis served up onto mobile

With Wimbledon just around the corner (at least for those who can pull themselves away from the World Cup – yes, that includes you T. Henman), Glu Mobile has released Virtua Tennis Mobile Edition, a graphically snazzy version of the SEGA arcade classic.

What's more, the game looks as packed as Henman Hill in a fifth set tie-breaker.

You can choose from 20 Virtua players (made up ones, in other words) or else create your own customised ball-slinger, then tread the courts of various worldwide tournaments.

Participating in competitions enables you to win Virtua cash prizes, and the loot can be spent on shirts, racquets and shoes – even a contract with a doubles partner.

"As we've seen through the success of Sonic the Hedgehog, Glu has the proven ability to successfully bring our original console games to the mobile platform," said Darren Newnham of SEGA Europe. "We look forward to giving mobile gamers the ability to play Virtua Tennis whenever and wherever they want."

Actually, the waiting is over Darren: Virtua Tennis Mobile Edition is hitting the operators even as we type. Click "Track It!" to be alerted of our imminent review; we're currently having 'just one more go' (or two) before writing.
