Lost game coming to handhelds

If you could be marooned on a desert island with one game, would it be this one?

Fans of beautiful models wandering around a sunny island encountering inexplicable surrealism and hallucinations have been making their way to Ibiza for decades.

More recently, they've been tuning into Channel 4's Lost, where the easy-on-the-eye survivors of a plane crash wander around in circles trying to work out what's going on and what to do next.

If that already sounds like an infuriating old-style French computer game, you'll be pleased to hear that Gallic publisher Ubisoft has picked up the rights to make a Lost game – and that it's coming to 'handheld consoles' (which we suspect means DS and PSP).

Due to arrive in 2007, there's no specific details of the game yet, but we expect the same heady mix of plane crash survivors trying to figure out why some of them are being picked off by a mysterious foe, why others refuse to say anything, and just how they'll survive when their supplies of pre-crash flashbacks run out.

"Many of us on Lost have been hardcore gamers for years, and the chance to work with Ubisoft, a company behind some of our favourite titles, has excited us to no end," added Lost producer Bryan Burk (presumably shortly after they found him – ho ho). "With the ability to tell new interactive stories within the Lost universe, we're giddy to be developing a game that, once completed, will be as engaging and fun to play as it is to create."
