Why take one game onto the bus, when you can take 200?

PSP owners casting envious glances towards the Nintendo DS' and GBA's plethora of party games are to be offered some mini-game relief of their own.

HOT PXL – just announced by publisher Atari – is made up of over 200 urban-styled micro-games, all linked together by a quirky plot and including cameo appearances from old favourites drawn from Atari's huge back catalogue.

As the central character, Djon (Atari describes him as "a half-skater, half-nerd", although we're thinking a type of mustard), you'll be charged with navigating through his pixellated digital world.

And happily for us, that world consists of innumerable 2D games, from BMX and skateboarding challenges to stage-diving and jay-walking – rather than, say, doing the accounts by 3pm.

The visuals certainly look promising, featuring an edgy, sketchy style that's a million miles from Nintendo's more day-glo outings.

And if 200 games isn't enough to give you RSI, HOT PXL will also be kept up-to-date with new downloadable content piped to your handheld via wi-fi.

Atari still has plenty of time to finish the first lot of games though: HOT PXL isn't due out until Christmas 2006.
