Too many bad games, says EA Mobile boss

The boss of Electronic Arts Mobile, Mitch Lasky, has admitted that "there are too many mobile games and most of them suck."

"There is a real danger of an Atari 2600 episode here," Lasky added, referring to the pioneering 1970s games console that was eventually swamped by a flood of bad games that turned gamers away from the machine.

Lasky was speaking at the Game Developers Conference in San Jose, in his first public speech since EA bought his company, the mobile publisher Jamdat, for an eye-watering $684 million in December.

As well as rival games publishers, Lasky attacked mobile phone operators for making it so unenjoyable to browse and buy games. He pointed out that while mobile games have made huge leaps in terms of graphics and gameplay in the past few years, buying them remains as dull as ever.

At Pocket Gamer, we agree there's a lot of terrible mobile titles out there. That's why we're dedicated to bringing you detailed mobile game reviews together with review scores you can trust, to help you sort the wheat from the chaff when looking for a great mobile game.

We'll be tracking Mitch down and pointing him towards Pocket Gamer in the next few days. Then he can benefit from Pocket Gamer's reviews too…
