Over 3,000 people queued up in the early hours outside the Osaka Yodobashi Camera store in Japan recently, all eager to get their Pocket Gaming mitts on Nintendo's new DS Lite Ice and Navy Blue consoles.

Keeping the doors locked to get a queue building up for the photographer is a time-honoured trick for a new product launch, of course. Not that we're suggesting Nintendo would have resorted to such tactics. With its extensive game design heritage, it's more likely to have trapped them by spreading some glue on the floor. Or perhaps the front door of the store sits 30 feet above a temporarily disabled jump pad?

Regardless, the DS Lite is clearly no lightweight. Latest figures show the DS Lite White – which was released back on March 2nd in Japan – was bought by some 68,438 eager punters in its first week, compared to 49,118 standard DSs sold, and 43,110 PSPs.
