Sega’s blue-haired mascot to deliver his own brand of spiky platform action to pocket gamers

Sonic sprints onto mobile

Sonic the Hedgehog is limbering up for his debut appearance on mobile phone later this month, courtesy of iFone. Sonic The Hedgehog Part One will comprise half of the Sega mascot’s original MegaDrive game, to be followed by Part Two later on in 2006.

Featuring three zones, each containing three levels, you’ll control Sonic as he travels through the Green Hill Zone, Marble Zone and Spring Yard Zone on his quest to free the animals who’ve been captured by the evil Dr. Robotnik. A sideways scrolling platform game, Sonic isn’t your ordinary hedgehog, having been gifted with a snazzy pair of red running shoes that enable him to race along at un-hedgehog-like speeds. A quick dab down on the controls sends Sonic rolling into a spiky ball that can knock down walls and destroy enemies, while he can jump and spin into airborne enemies, too.

iFone’s Marketing Director, Enda Carey, is excited: “Sonic The Hedgehog is one of the best known gaming titles ever. Not only does this fast and compelling character lend himself perfectly to the mobile platform, but with more advanced and faster technology available, we are able to offer a highly compelling console-like experience on a mobile phone.”

Sonic The Hedgehog Part One will be available later this February via Orange in the UK, speeding onto the other networks over March.
