Extending Tetris with Touch
It’s the return of the falling block phenomenon, this time for DS
Considering Tetris was the game that made Nintendo’s original Game Boy a success, it makes sense for the company to shell out on a new version for the DS. The big question, however, is how do you improve on perfection?
To some degree, of course, Nintendo won’t. One mode of Tetris DS will be old fashioned Tetris, with traditionally rotating blocks a-falling as familiar as granny’s apple pie. There will be a few attempts to update the game for the Touch Me! generation, though.
In total, there will be six modes of play, each of which will be based on a graphical theme from Nintendo’s back catalogue of game characters, including Mario, Legend of Zelda and Metroid. All will be playable using the touchscreen and stylus.
Other modes will make full use of the DS’ wi-fi connectivity with two player head-to-head and even 10 player wireless mayhem available. You’ll also be able to go onto Nintendo’s Wi-fi Connection and play in two-player and four-player competitions around the world.
Tetris DS is currently due to fall gracefully into shops on 20th March.
