One month after the PSP’s launch in the UK, sales of movies on its UMD format are off to a steady start with around half of all PSP owners thought to have bought a movie. The biggest selling releases to-date include the Kate Beckinsale vampire-versus-werewolf battler Underworld, cult remake The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy and ropey Ice Cube action flick xXx - The Next Level.

And there's more goodies on the way, with the BBC announcing that Doctor Who will be released on the format. Four UMDs, each containing three episodes, will be released, although the first, out on the 17th of October, will feature Doctor Who Volume Two, which includes the first story of the new Doctor Who revival involving the Daleks. The other episodes in that UMD are Aliens of London and World War Three; both stories based around the antics of the human-skin-wearing Slitheen.

Volumes one, three and four, which take the action up to episode 12: Bad Wolf, will be released in December. Pricing will be around the £18 mark.
