It's come to the point where there may be more games about Vikings than there are actual stories about Vikings. In a way, that's pretty impressive - and what's more impressive is that people's love of playing as Vikings or playing in a world where Vikings are a major element doesn't show any signs of slowing down. The fascination with these Norse people is matched only by the love that creators and players have for Norse mythology. Taking that into account, as planning would have it, the online game Viking Rise has both of those things while trying to tell its own story with its own Viking characters to lead the way.

As the game begins, you oversee a group of Vikings fleeing to a new homeland. They're being pursued by a destructive and possibly animalistic Niflung clan that wants nothing more than to see them wiped out. However, your Viking clan is not only made up of strong warriors but also strong workers and artisans. You can build up a nice base for yourself to support an army that can liberate other Viking villages and prisoners around these new lands. It's a huge task, and who better to lead the way than the Heroes? Even so, some of these stars shine brighter than others.

1
Gregory

How can you play a Viking game and not have a guy wearing an animal pelt made in a way that makes them look like the animal? Well, Gregory is that guy complete with a bear hugging his shoulders and carrying a large axe that the average person would need four arms to carry. Gregory is classified as a Basic Attacker, but his abilities make him a balanced addition to any squad and duty you assign him. His main strength comes from providing quality Security to your city or any of your villages. His starting Skills are Agitation and Drumming Disturbance, both of which solidify his position as an attacker. By using them, he can boost his troops' power and their abilities while also providing a light healing buff that reduces the effectiveness of enemy abilities.

2
Artur

While the Vikings are generally viewed as towering muscular fighters, they also have their fair share of what could be considered "creepy" individuals. Artur is one such figure, having his whole head bandaged save for his left eye, adorned with large animal skulls, and carrying an unsettling lantern. He offers balanced boosts when it comes to Commerce and Security, but really shines in Mining. In battling and defending, Artur relies on his magical skills which can be devastating. His signature moves Burning Fire and Torment are designed to wear down even the largest armies. He can easily inflict Burning to do damage over time and his sheer presence will whittle away at enemies' health.

3
Varka

There were plenty of women who fought in the Viking armies in various positions. Varka is a mysterious entity gifted with a power that allows her to keep her Viking comrades strong. She's most beneficial to the thriving of your city since she can heavily influence your Commerce, but she's not afraid to get her hands dirty in lending her expertise to Mining. In battle, she can bring up the rear while aiding the frontlines. She enters with a mix of debilitating and supportive skills in Weakening Curse and Tricked. The former is an offensive ability that deals damage while reducing enemy attack and the latter has a chance to generate protective shields that can also heal.

4
Cecia

While the female Vikings may not have been the same size as the male Vikings, they were no less ferocious. Cecia is a perfect example of that, leading her own troops across hostile lands and leading the charge. She's one of the first heroes in Vikings Rise to join your forces naturally through playing the story, and she quickly shows her strength. Her scores in Mining, Commerce, and Security are average, but she really shines on the battlefield. Cecia is all about attacking and ripping through enemies with skills like Carnage and All In. When she uses these skills, targets will take more damage, and she can sacrifice a bit of defence to gain a huge boost to her attack power.

5
Snorri

If there's a thing that any Viking story will tell you, it's that Vikings really like fighting, arguably even more so with their bare hands. You can see such a brawler in Snorri - unarmed, unarmored, and covered with various mystical markings as he stares at you with haunting eyes. Another hero with middling scores in Mining, Commerce, and Security, Snorri needs a reason to be out exploring while hunting down Niflung troops and large beasts. This is a guy who takes damage just so that he can deal it back even harder. While he's not specifically a Counterattacker, Snorri's skills Berserk Brawl and Totem Nirvana are made for it, allowing him to be a great secondary commander. He can deal with direct damage to multiple targets while increasing counterattack power and improving defence.

6
Eugen

When it comes to gaining heroes in Viking Rise, you're always hoping for the rarest at the top tier, but there's an appreciation to be had for the working-class hero. Eugen is the kind of hero who also bears a lot of visual designs of the typical Viking. Despite his bulking warrior appearance, he has a preference for aiding commerce, and his secondary role as a Porter makes him helpful on expeditions especially combined with his Gathering abilities. In terms of battle, Eugen is a true defender with skills like Obstinate and Ticking Anger. He will actually gain shields while attacking and can raise attack power the more damage he takes.

There you have it! These six are the most powerful heroes in Vikings Rise - they wouldn't put to shame even their iconic ancestors.
