Dictator simulator Tropico now available on iPhone alongside iPad version update
|

A recent trend that I'm very happy to see is updating of iPad exclusive titles to also support the iPhone. Earlier this month we had Rome: Total War - Barbarian Invasion go through the journey earlier in the month, and now the exceptional Tropico has updated to do the same. There's no coincidence, notorious porting developer Feral Interactive have worked on both.

The iPhone availability comes as part of an extensive update to the dictatorship-oriented city builder. There's also a few quality of life improvements including new illustrations, greater access to citizen data, a screenshot mode and the opportunity to minimize the UI.

Tropico on iPad, for those unaware, was an adaptation of the third entry in the long-running PC series. Each entry has you taking on the role of a dictator of a small island state. You then build country improvements, homes and facilities all while negotiating on an ideological scale and attempting to stop any new political parties from forming and pulling you from power.

It's a fun strategy game which has more in common with the modern sub-genre of colony builder, in that you're also assigning workers to most of the buildings as you buy and develop them.

Here are the details on the spec requirements for the iPhone (and iPads) for the app:

"Tropico requires iOS 12 and just under 3GB of space to install.

Supported iPhones:
iPhone SE
iPhone 6S/6S Plus
iPhone 7/7 Plus
iPhone 8/8 Plus
iPhone X
iPhone XS/XS Max
iPhone XR
Supported iPads:
iPad (5th generation)
iPad (6th generation)
iPad Pro (1st generation: 9.7", 12.9")
iPad Pro (2nd generation: 10.5", 12.9")"
