Sonic the Hedgehog's movie teaser is really creeping us out
Coming to screens in 2019
It's been a good few months since we last heard about Sonic the Hedgehog's upcoming live-action film, and today's teaser is certainly going to get people talking. It may only be a couple of seconds long, but it's enough to notice some clear changes than what we've seen already.
Over on Paramount's Twitter and IGN earlier today the first teaser/poster was revealed, which shows an updated Sonic silhouette racing across the screen and posing in a wispy, blue light. While this is an interesting new look for the Sonic we all know and love, it won't rub everyone up the right way.The guys that brought you Deadpool & The Fast and the Furious are bringing SONIC THE HEDGEHOG to the big screen! #SonicMovie speeds into theatres Nov 2019. Like Ted, Paddington, and the upcoming Detective Pikachu film, Sonic will be an animated character in a real-life world, so it makes sense why the creative team decided a more - er - grown-up look. This time around he has fur and some new shoes, though his eyes and depiction of speed have yet to be fully confirmed.
I know it's only the first teeny look at the character, but I'm kind-of weirded out by it - is that strange? I was totally okay with the Pokemon in Detective Pikachu having silky soft fur, but on Sonic it's giving me an 'American Werewolf in London'-vibe and, just from reading the internet's reaction, it doesn't look like I'm alone.
We'll have to wait for some more definite reveals of the film before passing judgement. I'm still pretty excited to see how Jim Carry voices Dr. Robotnick, though now I'm wondering whether he's going to be animated or if he'll be wearing a ton of prosthetics again. I'll hope for the latter.
