Grimvalor, Direlight's awesome soulslike, launches for Nintendo Switch on April 7th
One of the best mobile soulslikes hits Switch
Grimvalor, one of 2018's very best games, is heading to Nintendo Switch on April 7th. It's a hard-as-nails 2D soulslike that old Deputy Ed Harry called "cruel and dark", but what else would you expect from a game inspired by From Soft's modern classics?
It's set in the forgotten kingdom of Vallaris – a nasty, brutal land – and sees you tasked with uncovering the fate of its missing king. As you might expect, this quest takes you to all manner of awful locations.
Now surrounded on all sides by threats, you'll have to take up arms and defend yourself as best you can from the many horrors of the abyss.Grimvalor, a new hack-'em-up-vania on Nintendo Switch™! You'll spend your time mastering its elegant blend of hack-and-slash combat and platforming challenges, hunting for loot and solving little puzzles as you go. While it can be a bit doom and gloom, there's a friendly-ish merchant to chat and trade with, which is nice.
The Switch version will arrive with the long-awaited New Game+ mode. Here, you'll take on even trickier enemies in the hopes of acquiring powerful new equipment. It should improve replayability and give returning players a fresh challenge.
Harry reviewed Grimvalor at launch, praising its slick combat and fresh spin on the well-worn soulslike formula. It earned a well-deserved Silver Rating in the end, and it's important to note that the game has only improved since then.
Switch pre-orders have officially opened today, and it'll be priced at $12.99. You'll find Grimvalor available for purchase now from the Nintendo eShop. If you'd rather give it a go on mobile, it's also for sale on the App Store and Google Play.
